Cricket coaching
ECB Level 2 coaching refers to the coaching certification program offered by the England and
Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for cricket coaches. ECB Level 2 is the second level in the ECB
coaching pathway, and it is designed for coaches who have already completed ECB Level 1 or an
equivalent coaching qualification.
The ECB Level 2 coaching course aims to provide coaches with a deeper understanding of the
game of cricket and develop their coaching skills. The course covers various aspects of coaching,
including technical skills, tactical awareness, coaching principles, game analysis, player
management, and more. The course is usually conducted through a combination of classroom-
based learning, practical coaching sessions, and assessments.
Some of the key components of the ECB Level 2 coaching course may include:
- Coaching theory: This covers the principles of coaching, understanding learning styles, planning and delivering effective coaching sessions, and managing players' performance.
- Technical skills: This involves understanding and coaching the basic and advanced technical skills of batting, bowling, fielding, and wicketkeeping, including drills and practice techniques.
- Tactical awareness: This focuses on developing an understanding of the tactical aspects of the game, such as game awareness, game plans, field placements, and strategies for different formats of cricket.
- Game analysis: This covers techniques for analyzing and evaluating player performance and match situations, and using video analysis tools to provide feedback to players.
- Player management: This includes understanding and managing player behavior, motivation, communication skills, and creating a positive coaching environment.
- Safeguarding and first aid: This covers the safeguarding and welfare of young players, first aid, and health and safety considerations in coaching.
- Assessment: Coaches will be assessed through practical coaching sessions, written assignments, and other assessments to demonstrate their coaching competence.
Upon successful completion of the ECB Level 2 coaching course, coaches will be awarded the
ECB Level 2 coaching qualification, which is a recognized coaching qualification in England and
Wales. It allows coaches to coach at a higher level, such as club, county, and regional levels, and
progress further in their coaching career.
